"The Talk" Host Sheryl Underwood Brings a "House Party" to Fort Valley State University on Friday, Feb. 9

FORT VALLEY, GA (February 7, 2018) Fort Valley State University welcomes celebrity comedian Sheryl Underwood, co-host of the CBS daytime television show "The Talk," to promote her nationally syndicated radio show, "Sheryl Underwood Radio's House Party," is slated to become morning programming for FVSU's WFVS 96.9 in the spring. Underwood will record her show live on campus this Friday, February 9,th in the Student Amenities Center from noon until 2 p.m. It will also be streamed via social media.

The show will highlight FVSU's unique culture, students, and educational environment, from fraternities and sororities to academic excellence. Underwood will interview FVSU President Paul Jones, Head Basketball Coach Sammy Jackson, Head Women's Basketball Coach LeCoe Willingham, Director of Bands Jonathan Thompson, and Mr. and Miss FVSU.

"Sheryl Underwood's Radio's House Party," features entertaining conversations covering relationships, entertainment, sports, and hot topics. It airs in major markets from coast to coast, including Dallas, Houston, Oakland, Detroit, Minneapolis, St. Louis, Orlando, Chicago, Kansas City, Baltimore, New Orleans, Miami, Las Vegas, and Tampa. WFVS station manager Shirley Ellis, who mentors students about the radio business, is excited about the opportunity for students to see the production process for a syndicated radio show up close.

"Students often have the chance to observe local radio production through classes, but syndicated radio has different elements they will get to experience." Ellis said.

Underwood is an entertainer, businesswoman, philanthropist, and multi-faceted, multi-media entrepreneur. The Talk has won an Emmy Award and is watched by an average of 3+ million viewers per day. She is owner and chief executive officer of Pack Rat Productions, Inc., and the Pack Rat Foundation for Education, which raises money to support historically black colleges and universities and their students. The 23rd International President of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc., Underwood is also national spokesperson for the Underwareness Campaign affiliated with Kimberly-Clark's Depend brand. A TVOne "Unsung" special tells the story of her life.

With over 760,000 followers, she was named one of the 10 most influential talk show hosts on Twitter. As part of The Talk's hosting team, Underwood received a 2016 People's Choice Award for "Favorite Daytime TV Hosting Team," and an NAACP Image Award winner for "Outstanding Talk Series." She has been featured in People, Ebony, Essence, and Entertainment Weekly magazines, among others. Her acting credits include movies such as Bullworth, I Got the Hook-up and Beauty Shop. She also hosted BET's Comic View.

She received honorary doctorates from Benedict College in Columbia, SC and South Carolina State University in Orangeburg, SC.
