Posted on Sep 26, 2023

Fort Valley State University (FVSU) is proud to announce the introduction of an online master’s in public administration (MPA) program, scheduled to commence in the summer of 2024. This exciting addition to FVSU’s academic offerings underscores the University’s commitment to preparing future leaders in public service and administration.

The University System of Georgia Board of Regents approved the fully online master’s in public administration (MPA) at a recent meeting.  The new master’s program will offer two tracks: homeland security and emergency management.

The Master of Public Administration degree program at FVSU aligns with the system-wide strategic plan by providing an affordable, accessible, and high-quality education. The public administration area of homeland security and emergency management aligns with the state workforce strategic plans. The program will promote the lifelong success of students and galvanize students to create, disseminate, and apply knowledge to advance our state, nation, and world. In addition, the MPA degree program will enhance and promote student success, responsible stewardship, economic competitiveness, and community impact.

Graduates of the program will be able to seek careers as U.S. Customs and Border Protection agents, emergency management directors, environmental health managers, government professionals, counterterrorism analysts, and more.

“I am delighted to share by the University System Board of Regents’ the approval of Fort Valley State University’s fully online program. This momentous decision marks a significant milestone in our commitment to providing accessible and inclusive higher education opportunities to students from all walks of life. With the ever-evolving landscape of education, it is imperative that we adapt and embrace innovative approaches that meet the needs of our diverse student body,” said Olufunke Fontenot, Ed.D., Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs. “Introducing this fully online program signifies our unwavering dedication to expanding access to quality education, regardless of geographical or time constraints. We are committed to delivering a transformative educational experience that is flexible, engaging, and tailored to the unique needs of each student.”

The MPA program would make ten graduate degree programs for the University. FVSU welcomed its first Master of Social Work cohort this fall.
