Fort Valley State University proudly celebrated its 75th Honors Convocation on March 26, 2026, at 10 a.m. in the Health and Physical Education Complex. The annual event recognized and honored students for their outstanding academic achievements and commitment to excellence.

The keynote address was delivered by Craig D. Lockhart, Ed.D., a nationally recognized education leader, superintendent of Valdosta City Schools, and a distinguished alumnus of Fort Valley State University. Lockhart delivered an inspiring and moving speech, encouraging students to remain dedicated to their academic journeys, embrace leadership and continue striving for excellence beyond the classroom.

“We extend our sincere congratulations to all of FVSU’s exceptional scholars honored during the ceremony,” said Honors Convocation Committee Chair Mark. A. Smith, Ph.D. “Their dedication, discipline and commitment to academic excellence continue to set a standard of achievement that reflects the very best of our institution.”

Recognition during the convocation was given to students who demonstrated exceptional academic performance. Honorees included those selected for departmental honors, recipients of special scholastic awards, students who maintained both institutional and cumulative grade point averages of no less than a “B” while completing twelve or more semester hours of university coursework, and those elected to membership in regional, national or international honor societies for high academic achievement.

This year’s ceremony also highlighted several distinguished student achievements. Willoughby Caine was uniquely recognized as a double major in Mathematics and Computer Science, earning top honors from the faculties of both programs.

Blanche T. McCluskey received multiple prestigious honors, including the Board of Regents Academic Recognition Award for Fort Valley State University. She was also recognized as the Greek Female with the Highest GPA, an honor she shared in a tie with Mar’Laisia Wilson. In addition, McCluskey received the program award for Animal Science and is a member of the FVSU Honors Program.

This year’s Honors Convocation celebrated an impressive number of students across all classifications. The Freshman class contained 287 honorees. The Sophomore class had 330 honorees, including 163 who received their second Honors Convocation recognition. The Junior class contained 284 honorees and 111 of them received their second Honors Convocation acknowledgement, while an impressive 105 accepted their third. The Senior class included 316 honorees; of them, 64 received their second Honors Convocation acknowledgement, 114 accepted their third, and an astonishing 91 scholars were recognized for at least four years in a row.
