FVSU Announces Walter M. Kimbrough, Ph.D., as Keynote Speaker for 39th Annual Scholarship Luncheon

Fort Valley State University (FVSU) will host its 39th Annual Scholarship Luncheon, one of the University’s most anticipated signature events, with nationally recognized higher education leader Walter M. Kimbrough, Ph.D., serving as the keynote speaker.
Under the theme, “The Power of Giving, The Promise of Greatness” this year’s luncheon will take place Monday, February 16, at noon in the Health and Physical Education Complex on FVSU’s campus. The event is held annually on President’s Day and remains the University’s largest single-day fundraiser for student scholarships.
Walter M. Kimbrough, Ph.D., currently serves as executive vice president for Research and Member Engagement at the United Negro College Fund (UNCF). A native of Atlanta, Kimbrough earned degrees from the University of Georgia, Miami University and a doctorate in higher education from Georgia State University.
Widely respected across higher education, Kimbrough has enjoyed a distinguished career in student affairs and institutional leadership, including service at Emory University, Georgia State University, Old Dominion University and Albany State University. At the age of 37, he became president of Philander Smith College, where he served for seven and a half years, followed by a decade as president of Dillard University. He also served as interim president of Talladega College.
The FVSU Scholarship Luncheon brings together alumni, faculty, staff, students, corporate partners and community supporters in a shared effort to invest in the next generation of leaders. The event symbolizes FVSU’s enduring mission to expand educational opportunities and strengthen student success through collective giving.
