Overview

FVSU has the only four-year applied Agriculture Education program in the state of Georgia that has Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation (CAEP) accreditation. The program also has been designated as a Georgia Professional Standards Commission (PSC) approved program. Facilities include an agriscience and technology teaching lab that helps graduates pass teacher certification exams.

Agricultural education majors focus on instructional strategies and methods to help others learn about the cultivation of life, including plants, farm animals, and other organisms. Students in this major study plant and animal sciences, technology, food production and utilization as well as curriculum design and delivery as well as classroom management.

Admission Requirements

To be admitted to the university high school students must have a GPA of 2.25 as well as an SAT score of 430 on Critical Thinking/Verbal and 400 on Math or an ACT score of 17 on English and 17 on Math.

However, to be officially admitted to teacher education, students must have a GPA of 2.70 or higher on 50 hours of course work and must have passed the Georgia Assessment for Certification of Educators (GACE) Basic Skills Assessment.
