FVSU Receives $50,000 Scholarship Grant from Coca-Cola Foundation and Thurgood Marshall College Fund

Fort Valley State University was presented with a $50,000 grant from the Thurgood Marshall College Fund (TMCF)/ Coca-Cola HBCU First Generation Scholarship Program during this past weekend's basketball game versus Claflin University in FVSU's Health and Physical Education Complex. The funds will provide four students with annual funding over four years to help offset their college expenses and persist to graduation. FVSU was one of six HBCUs to be awarded the grant.

"Fort Valley State University strives to provide a quality education that is affordable to all of its students, and through this Coca-Cola/Thurgood Marshall College Fund partnership, we will continue to serve as a point of access and opportunity for first generation college students, " said Anthony Holloman, vice president for advancement at FVSU. Holloman worked with Roger Johnson, director of community partnerships for Coca-Cola North America and A.L. Fleming, director of revenue for the TMCF, to secure the grant as a part of the University's overall fundraising strategy to increase access to higher education for all students.

TMCF is named for the U.S. Supreme Court's first African-American justice, Thurgood Marshall, who was an historically black college alumnus. Established in 1987, TMCF supports and represents nearly 300,000 students attending its 47 member-schools that include publicly-supported historically black colleges and universities (HBCUs), medical schools, and law schools.
