Fort Valley State University President Paul Jones was recently named to a listing of the "Ten Most Dominant HBCU Leaders of 2020," noted for their influence and ability to move their institutions forward. The list was created by HBCU Campaign Fund, a non-profit that advocates for historically black colleges and universities (HBCUs) and Minority-Serving Institutions (MSIs). Jones was 5th on the list.

According to Demetrius Johnson Jr., founder and chairman of the board at HBCU Campaign Fund, the leaders named to the online publication's ranking have "proven their responsibilities for shaping policies, changing perspectives and making decisions that affect millions of individuals in the higher education sector and the daily needs of an HBCU or Minority-Serving Institution."

Johnson also noted in the rankings article, "The dynamics of higher education in America today are driving the demand for a new set of skills and capabilities for tomorrow's leaders. Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) and Minority Serving Institutions (MSIs) provide quality education to low-income, first-generation, and academically underprepared students. Those institutions of such also serve a diverse population while maintaining the role as the backbone of educational institutions for more than 140-year history."
