Admission Requirements for Incoming Freshmen

Before diving in, here are a few terms you should know as you navigate your FVSU application submission. 
  • Incoming Freshman/First-Year Student: If you have never been enrolled in a regionally accredited college or university or attended a college or university only as a dual enrollment student while in high school, you are considered a freshman or first-year college student. 
  • Adult Learners: Adult Learners (formally known as non-traditional students) are incoming freshmen or first-year students who graduated high school at least five years agoearned a General Education Diploma (GED), and have not attended college. 
  • Test-Optional: Test-optional allows you to apply and receive an admissions decision to FVSU without submitting standardized test scores, like the SAT or ACT, if you meet the minimum test-optional GPA Requirements. Check out those requirements below. 
Fort Valley State University requires completion of the Required High School Curriculum (RHSC) course units.
  • If you apply via our test-optional policy, you must have a minimum 3.0 GPA based on RHSC units

  • If you're applying with a minimum 2.25 GPA based on RHSC course units, you can be admitted if SAT or ACT minimum requirements are met. See SAT, ACT, and ACCUPLACER requirements on the next tab.

FVSU is test-optional for freshman or first-year applicants with a minimum 3.0 GPA based on RHSC units. Applicants with at least a 2.25 GPA can be admitted if SAT or ACT minimum requirements are met.

SAT Score Requirement

Do you meet our minimum GPA requirement? To meet our minimum requirements, score a 480 in Reading and Writing and a 440 in Math on the SAT. 

Please note that we super score the SAT if you plan to submit test scores with your FVSU application. If you have taken the ACT multiple times, we will take the highest scores from each test to help you meet the minimum SAT admission requirement.

ACT Score Requirement

Do you meet our minimum GPA requirement? To meet our minimum requirements, score a 17 on the ACT in English/Reading and Math. 

Please note that we super score the ACT if you plan to submit test scores with your FVSU application. If you have taken the ACT multiple times, we will take the highest scores from each test to help you meet the minimum ACT admission requirement.

ACCUPLACER Score Requirement
Designed for Adult Learners entering as Freshmen. 

For Adult Learners who graduated high school at least five years ago or earned a GED, FVSU requires official high school or GED transcripts and minimum score requirements on SAT, ACT, or ACCUPLACER exams for admission.

Applying as an Incoming Freshman

Our application is quick and straightforward! You can Find Your Spark and begin the journey to Ignite Your Light at FVSU in two ways.  

Apply to Fort Valley State University (FVSU) through GAFutures.org.

Apply with Georgia (GA) Futures

Are you already considering a few other schools in Georgia? Add Fort Valley State University to your list! Georgia and non-Georgian residents can use GAFutures to submit their applications. 

Apply to Fort Valley State University through the Common Black College Application.

Apply with Common Black College Application (CBCA)

You can save time applying to your top Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) through the Common Black College Application. Add Fort Valley State University to your top five schools so we can pull your application.

Your official transcripts tell us all about your academic performance through your high school or previous college courses. We’ve made the process easy for your school counselor or administrator to submit transcripts on your behalf with our three ways that transcripts can be sent.

Your counselor or school administrator can share your official transcript via GAFutures.org.  Simply send them a request through the platform to get the process started.

Your counselor or school administrator can share your official transcript via Parchment. Don’t forget to submit a request to your counselor or school administrator.

Your school counselor or administrator can send your official transcripts via email or mail. To have your school counselor or administrator send us an email, have them send the email to admissions@fvsu.edu.

Did you hear? FVSU has gone test-optional! If you have a Core-GPA of a 3.0 or higher, you're not required to submit SAT/ACT scores. 

If you are required to submit your SAT or ACT Scores, don't forget to request them to be sent through College Board or ACT.com platforms. Scores submitted by students directly (via email or mail) are not considered official.
