Welcome to the College of Arts and Sciences (CAS) at Fort Valley State University.
It is my distinct pleasure to invite you to explore the dynamic and forward-thinking environment that defines our college at The Valley. Home to a diverse range of programs in five departments: Arts and Communications, Behavioral and Social Sciences, Business Administration, Natural and Computational Sciences, and Nursing, including graduate programs in Social Work and Public Administration, we, at CAS, are committed to academic excellence, inclusive innovation, and real-world impact.
Our faculty conduct cutting edge research in their fields, with research supported by prestigious national funding agencies such as the National Science Foundation and other federal and industry partners. Their dedication to both scholarship and mentorship ensures that students are not only learning the latest advancements in their disciplines but are also active contributors to groundbreaking research.
At the heart of our approach is a commitment to experiential learning. With our small class size, students benefit from close interaction with faculty, collaborative learning environments, and hands-on opportunities that extend beyond the classroom. Whether it's through research projects, internships, service learning, or community partnerships, our students graduate with the knowledge, skills, and experience needed to thrive in today’s knowledge-based global society.
We are intentional in establishing collaborative partnerships that enhance our students’ professional skills, including effective communication, teamwork, and problem-solving. Our linkages with Robins Air Force Base and the Grand Valley State University HBCU/HSI Consortium are prime examples. Collaboration with Robins Air Force Base offers training in cybersecurity and provides students with access to career paths, internships, and job shadowing opportunities. Meanwhile, the partnership with Grand Valley State University facilitates pathways for our students to pursue graduate studies through inter-institutional collaboration.
We are especially proud of the impact and legacy of the Collaborative Developmental Energy Program (CDEP), a trailblazing program that fosters pathways for high-achieving students into the energy industry and STEM fields since 1993. This program exemplifies our mission to build equitable access to high-impact careers while contributing to the nation’s energy future.
We invite you to explore our website and join our community, whether you're a prospective student, a parent, an industry partner, or a fellow educator, where passion meets purpose and a mission-driven liberal education empowers every student to lead, innovate, and make a difference.
