Psychology is the study of human and animal behavior, including biological, cognitive, emotional, and social influences on behavior. Professionals in this field seek to explain and predict behavior by exploring it is affected by the way the brain learns and processes information, personalities, relationships, the way our bodies function, decision-making, and social environments.

Because professionals with psychology backgrounds are experts in human behavior, they follow a wide variety of career paths. Many conduct research, while others work in business, health services, human resources, counseling, law, and public policy, among other areas. Most psychology students pursue graduate education, including a doctorate degree.
