Spring and Summer Commencement 2020
March 19, 2020
Dear Wildcat Family:
Over the past few days, we have all experienced tremendous upheaval in our state, nation and the world due to the impact of the coronavirus (COVID-19.) Because of the threat to the public’s safety, the White House has issued a national state of emergency and the governor of Georgia has placed the state under a public health state of emergency.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and other state agencies are advising everyone to limit crowd sizes to less than 10 for the next eight weeks to support slowing the rate of infection. Fort Valley State University has taken several measures to support these guidelines and to protect our Wildcat Family, including moving all classes online starting March 30th. However, there are other measures that we must regrettably take to ensure we are abiding by public health guidelines.
Fort Valley State is postponing the spring 2020 commencement. We know this action may be a disappointment for our graduates, their families and our dedicated faculty who have all worked hard and sacrificed for this celebratory milestone. Because we understand that commencement is such a cherished event at FVSU, we plan to offer a special commencement ceremony for our spring and summer 2020 graduates on August 8, 2020, in the HPE Complex, if the CDC deems it safe to assemble in large crowds.
We are hopeful that this extended time will allow for a more positive outcome of this unprecedented disaster. We plan to continuously monitor this situation and provide you more information at a later date. We look forward to celebrating with you. Please continue to check our website for future updates.
Thank you for your continued support as we navigate through murky and uncharted waters TOGETHER.
